The Purpose and Rationale for Addressing Science and Technology in KPGM Anthropocene Missiology

KPGM Anthropocene Missiology does not view science and technology merely as realms of knowledge or tools for industrial development. Science and technology are crucial areas that must be addressed in concert to understand the Anthropocene crisis that humanity faces today—namely, the climate crisis, ecosystem destruction, environmental pollution, disease and health issues, technological disparity, and the ethical confusion of artificial intelligence—and to respond to it responsibly.

Anthropocene missiology cannot remain solely focused on the salvation of souls. If the world created by God is being damaged by human greed and distorted civilizational structures, then mission must become a responsible response aimed at the restoration of not only humanity and society, but of the entire created order. Therefore, KPGM Anthropocene Missiology explores how to accurately understand today's reality through science and technology, and how the gospel of God’s kingdom should be proclaimed and practiced within that reality.

Ecology is the study of relationships between living organisms, and between living organisms and their environment. Ecology helps us realize that the created world is not a mere collection of separate entities, but a community interconnected and interdependent within the order of life established by God. Through this, we move beyond understanding humans solely as beings who dominate nature, learning instead our stewardship mission to live responsibly within the created world.

Environmental science comprehensively examines how human activities impact the atmosphere, water, soil, climate, resources, waste management, and pollution issues. The Anthropocene crisis is not merely a natural problem; it is also a result of human civilizational patterns, economic structures, consumption cultures, and modes of technology use. Therefore, environmental science provides a crucial foundation for KPGM Anthropocene Missiology to concretely understand today's environmental crisis and to seek practical directions for the holistic restoration of the created world.

TL Tech technology is treated as a restoration technology for responding to practical crises such as environmental pollution, carbon emissions, and waste issues. While technology can serve as a tool to amplify human greed, when used with proper theological direction and ethical responsibility, it can become an instrument for restoring life, the environment, and community.

Healthcare technology is directly connected to the dignity of human life. Disease, poverty, medical inequality, and disparities in healthcare across regions are not merely technical problems, but issues of human life, justice, and love. KPGM Anthropocene Missiology explores the possibilities of missional practice through healthcare technology to care for suffering humanity and to save lives.

AI-era technological data is necessary because artificial intelligence and digital technologies profoundly influence human thought, education, labor, social structures, and modes of mission. While AI can be beneficially used for evangelism, education, data construction, and online mission, it also carries risks of dehumanization, information distortion, surveillance and control, and technological inequality. Therefore, AI-era technology must be dealt with through theological discernment and ethical responsibility.

Ultimately, the purpose of addressing science and technology in KPGM Anthropocene Missiology is not to place science above faith, nor to make technology central to mission. Its purpose is to understand more deeply the reality of the world created by God and of human society, and to seek responsible missional pathways for the restoration of humanity and all creation within the gospel of Christ.

Science allows us to see reality, technology provides tools for response, and theology enables us to discern direction and purpose. KPGM Anthropocene Missiology connects ecology, environmental science, TL Tech technology, healthcare technology, and AI-era technological data to research how the gospel of God’s kingdom should be proclaimed and practiced toward humanity, society, and the entire created world in the Anthropocene.
